Christmas cards 2017

Hello, I’ve designed some new Christmas cards for this year as well. I have two designs, “Can’t talk so I write” with a girl lying down and writing a card and “Not my only wish” with a girl hanging on to a star ornament. The illustrations are outlined with a black pen, coloured in with colour pencils, and then placed on a dark navy background. The inside says “but Merry Christmas.” so it completes a sentence with the writing on the front. I’ve been adding 2 designs every year with the same theme since 2011. But this year, the girl has pink hair to reflect my hair colour. They come with silver envelopes and are suitable for those who are quite but with many thoughts in their head. Hope you like them!

Christmas cards 2016

It’s only a month until Christmas… Here are the new Christmas cards I’ve designed this year. I have made two designs, one with a girl in a T-shirt with the text “Of course I’m cold”, and another with a girl sleeping on a sofa with the text “Not part of it”. Inside of the card it says “but Merry Christmas”. Minus Sun Christmas cards are alternatives to the typical cheerful joyful Christmas cards. They are backwards yet friendly. Hope you like them!

“minus the sun, night all day” paperback edition

Finally, there is a paperback version of my second story book “minus the sun, night all day”. It is 56 pages long and contains pictures of the original fabric book and the text printed in a typical paperback style. The glossy cover has the logo, the title, and the line-up of characters (front style on front cover, back style on back cover) wearing clothes from the second collection with the same title. It’s imitating vintage books with the sun tanned look but it’s part of the design printed on thick silky paper. There is a line drawing on the last page featuring the 10 girls sat together back to back as if they’re in orbit.

Christmas cards 2015

Like the past years, I have designed two new Christmas cards this year as well. In this “but Merry Christmas” series, as you may call, each design has a cynical illustration and a phrase on a dark navy background. This year I have “We are all tired” with sleepy girls in reindeer costumes and “A snowball fight alone” with a girl throwing a snowball at a snowman. Not so joyful but perfect for different people who understand.

Christmas cards 2014

These are the two Christmas cards I’ve designed this year, “Nothing else to give” with a girl packaging herself and “Don’t like silent nights” with a girl listening to music. Inside the cards it says “but Merry Christmas.”

Christmas cards 2013

Merry Christmas everyone. These two are my newly designed Christmas cards this year, “These are all mine” and “Not that bothered” with pen and colour pencil illustrations on a navy background. They both have “but Merry Christmas.” printed inside. I’ve been making 2 designs every year for 3 years now so there is a set of 6 different illustrations now. You can see the past designs here. I may continue the same series next year or start a new series, I have a year to think!

“minus the sun, night all day” character postcards

Here are the character postcards of my 2nd collection. The postcards of my 1st collection had a white background with pencil & watercolour illustrations with text describing each character. These have black backgrounds with handwritten design notes in white with digital illustrations. The back side has a girl silhouette stamp logo and address lines made of tiny crosses. Hope you like them. I’m keeping a set for myself and looking forward to growing my collection with each collection!

“You’re all mine. (You’re all in me.)” paperback edition

As you may know, I make a story and a story book for each collection. I always display the embroidered fabric books at events and I enjoy people enjoying them. Now, there is a paperback edition of “You’re all mine. (You’re all in me.)” which you can buy. It is 56 pages long and contains pictures of the original fabric book and the text printed in a typical paperback style. The glossy cover has the logo, the title, and the line-up of characters (front style on front cover, back style on back cover). It’s imitating vintage books with the sun tanned look but it’s part of the design printed on thick silky paper. Hope you like it.

Minus Sun introduction booklet

I’ve made this booklet when I was in Japan last month. It explains my concept, what I do, and who I am in Japanese. My brother will be making copies of it so he can have it in his shop with my works and hand out to customers. It will probably help people who are put off by my English-only website. Most of the writing is my handwriting. It is printed onto rough writing paper in A3 size and folded into a A6 size booklet. The last two images are the original data and I think you can recognise the charm of the rough writing paper which I’ve used to print on. You will find an image of my work and the illustration of the same look printed on the back side when you open it. It may be a good idea to make one in English as well. Also, my online store for Japan is ready so have a look if you’re in Japan. http://japan.minussun.co.uk

illustration bookmarks and posters

These are some design works I did for my brother’s shop, Entre-Box.

This one is to be on the display window to advertise the shelf space for rent. Minus Sun girl (=me!) is on the right wearing the Entre-Box apron and my brother is on the left holding the Minus Sun girl doll.

This one is going to be on the inside of the door. It says “Thank you very much.” Very Japanese.

These are bookmarks which are going to be given for free when a customer buys a book. The characters of “You’re all mine. (You’re all in me.)” are featured. They are all double sided and you will see the front and back of the characters. Even the letters of the main sentence for each character are mirrored at the back side as if seen from the back.
