the Solitary Girl’s dress calico ver.

I’ve been working on the dress for the Solitary Girl of “minus the sun, night all day” collection and here is the calico version I’ve done. It is a little sporty with sweatshirt details such as the triangle at the neckline, the pocket for both hands, and the drawstring at the hem. The final one will have a crocheted hood as well. The sleeves are made a bit longer because it will have crocheted cuffs with thumbholes in the final one. I wanted it to look comfortable and protective. I want my girl to feel safe.

It can be worn without gathers at the hem by adjusting the ribbon.
The pocket has a cut out detail in the shape of a little circle.

the neckline detail with a triangle bit and binding

cuff detail, I’ve used cotton ribbon here instead of the crocheted cuffs I will use in the final ver.

a pocket for both hands(is there a name for this?) with the cut out detail
It represents a lonely star in space.

the drawstring at the left side hem

This is the sample I did first but decided not to use this time. It looks good as it is but didn’t think it would work well with a crocheted hood. I might use the pattern for another design but not sure yet. Pleats at the neckline, elasticated waist, gathered cuffs with binding and covered buttons, and a drawstring hem.

playing with funfair token fabric strips

I bought some this exciting fabric strip in red with funfair token pattern a while a go and wanted to do something with it. It’s from a lovely haberdashery shop called Beyond Fabrics in East London. I made an oversized top with star patterened fabric in baby blue and used the strip to make the halterneck straps to tie behind the neck. I also made a bracelet with the leftover. I love the idea of funfair, circus, burlesque, hippie and so on. I am too serious a person to actually be involved in their world but I am fascinated by the utopian/distopian notion they have.
