Selvedge Artisan Christmas Fair

I have exhibited at Selvedge Artisan Christmas Fair at Chelsea Old Town Hall this Thursday and Friday. Thank you very much to those who are checking my blog now after visiting my stand at the fair. I have taken some photos so you can remember my work, or get a glimpse of what it was like if you couldn’t make it this time. I am happy my new paperback book (a printed version of the 2nd embroidered story book “minus the sun, night all day”) and the new Christmas cards I’ve designed this year have been popular. I will blog about them in the next few posts.

commissioned crocheted collar shirt dress final ver.

This is the final version of the commissioned shirt dress made with blue/purple-toned cotton fabric and cream coloured cotton yarn. Light blue/purple cotton with white dotted pattern in the weave is used for the shirt section and plain blue/purple cotton is used for the breast pocket, cuffs, and the skirt section. The breast pocket is embroidered with the letter F with some floral motifs around it.

-copy and paste from my previous post-
The top section is the same as the Smart Girl’s blouse from “minus the sun, night all day” collection with the crocheted collar and the odd-shaped breast pocket. The bottom section is similar to the Suicidal Girl’s dress from “It rained into her room.” collection except that it has buttons all the way down to the hem making it a shirt dress. Also, the skirt has less gather at the waist and is much longer. The square resin buttons on the front and the round buttons on the cuffs have beads and sequins in pale blue tone and some gold sequins. It is a size 12 so it might look loose on me here as I’m a size 8 but you get the idea.

commissioned sailor collar dress final ver.

Here is the final version of the commissioned sailor collar dress. It is made of white cotton and royal blue cotton sateen fabric. I used the same cotton ribbon as the prototype for the lines and the tie at the neck but I bleached it to match the white fabric. The design is almost the same but slightly more fitted around the hip to have less volume in the skirt section. There is also a detachable triangle piece at the neck with snap buttons for when you want to dress smart (or for colder days so you can wear a T underneath).

commissioned sailor collar dress prototype

Hello, I’m still alive. I’d like to show you the prototype for a commissioned dress I have made. It is a simple sailor collar dress made of calico and beige cotton twill fabric, which I had at home. Cotton ribbons are sewn on the collar and the rolled up cuffs to make the iconic lines. There are ties to make a bow at the chest and a welt breast pocket on the left. There are belt loops on the sides and a wide cotton ribbon to go through them. There is a side pocket on the right side of the pleated skirt section.

commissioned stand collar dress in navy

Hello, I am still alive. This dress was commissioned by my friend who has been inspired by the nurse costume I had made for myself last year. The original was a baby pink mini-dress but this one is in navy and knee-length. The hem is done with a cream coloured fabric in addition to the pocket detail and the covered buttons. There are hidden snap buttons along the front left bodice and the waist bands to be done at the back. A welt pocket on the left chest and the two front pockets are sewn into the seams making them secure and neat. Made in cotton.

Selvedge Spring Fair in Stroud

Sorry for the delay but here are some photos from the fair on 16th. It was my first time to visit Stroud, a lovely town with small independent shops and restaurants. I didn’t have a chance to walk around but seemed like there was a creative buzz. People seemed relaxed and well-off. The fair opened at 9am, which was quite early in my opinion because I’m hardly awake usually, but there was a market outside and it was busier in the morning than in the afternoon. Interesting.

reversible stitched cuffs updated

The bestselling item of Minus Sun, the hand stitched cuff bracelets, now fasten with lobster clasps. It used to be snap buttons for a long time but I’ve heard from a few customers that it went missing while wearing them. Although I liked the all-fabric-look and the ease of wearing, losing them sounded very sad so I’ve decided to change the design. The metal clasps and rings are attached to the bracelet with cotton ribbon. The chunky clasps keep the design unisex.

They are available on my online shop.

Selvedge Spring Fair 2015

I have exhibited at Selvedge Spring Fair at Chelsea Old Town Hall last Saturday. The fair was pretty busy and my stall enjoyed customers browsing through clothing, jewellery, and my embroidered story books. Thank you very much if you were there to see my work in person. Here are some photos for those who couldn’t make it. The next fair I’m doing will be Selvedge Fair in Stroud. I haven’t been there yet so I’m looking forward to visiting the area and showing my work to new customers.

“Are you okay?” commissioned covered button coat

This is a commissioned version of the covered button coat. I had originally made this style for myself to wear at craft fairs but now I do made-to-order because I receive compliments when I’m wearing it. It is a simple calico coat with 3/4 sleeves, fabric covered buttons, side seam pockets and a pleat at the back. It is fully lined with lighter calico.

This commissioned version has a welt pocket on the left chest and embroidery details on the back in addition. The “ARE YOU OKAY?” embroidery on the yoke and the sitting girl figure on the right bottom are embroidered in navy. The logo above the girl and the brand name at the inside neck are embroidered in hot pink.
